ECONET Group To Launch Pay TV Service In Africa


Econet Group, a South African-based diversified telecommunications group has announced it will be launching a unique Pay TV service, Kwesé TV in Africa.

Kwesé TV, which will be built on Econet’s core capabilities of satellite communications, fibre optic networks and mobile services, will offer Africans exclusive sports and entertainment programming.
Kwesé TV stands out from other similar platforms in that it will offer high-quality contents at a cheap rate and will be multi-screen – consumers can watch TV with a traditional TV, a smartphone, a tablet and/or a computer.
“What does this mean for Africa? I will tell you. We believe African consumers must have access to premium and exclusive TV programming at a price that is value for money,”Executive Chairman and Founder of Econet Group, Strive Masiyiwa said in a message on his official Facebook page.
He added, “I can also share that our programming philosophy is: Value for money, premium and exclusive content.”
In the coming months, Econet will be working to acquire and also develop new, high-quality and unique programming.
To whet the appetite of consumers as they await the official launch of Kwesé TV, Econet has launched a sports website, which offers access to some of its content, including the Copa Del Rey Spanish Cup.
Econet Group offers products such as mobile and fixed telephony services, satellite, fibre optic networks, broadband and mobile money.
Econet Group, founded in 1993 and headquartered in Johannesburg, operates in Africa, Europe, South America and the East Asia Pacific Rim through its subsidiaries such as Econet Wireless and Liquid Telecom.
