An educationist, Mrs Mabel Babasola, on Tuesday urged school owners to help government to achieve UNESCO’s Education For All (EFA), aimed at providing quality basic education for all children.
Babasola, who is the proprietor of Maria Breed Schools, Ajah, Lagos, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that school owners should look beyond making profit and make sacrifices in order to achieve the goal.
The Education for All (EFA) movement is a global commitment to provide quality basic education for all children, youth and adults.
At the World Education Forum in 2000 in Dakar, 164 governments pledged to achieve EFA and identified six goals to be met by 2015.
‘’If you have the interest of the children in mind, you will find out that you are making a lot of sacrifices in terms of providing an enabling and conducive environment for the children.
“You cannot educate a child by managing resources. That is where sacrifice comes in because it is a known fact that so much money is needed to run a school,’’ she said.
Babasola said that some schools were in the habit of charging exorbitant amounts without providing quality teachers and a conducive environment.
She said that government was trying its best to provide qualitative education for the children, urging parents and school owners to also play their part.
Babasola said that the first student to register in her school for the 2016/2017 session at the secondary level would get a scholarship.
‘’It is a way of contributing to the society and ensuring continuity in providing moral and academic excellence.
“Secondary education is the foundation of one’s success in life, so it can either mar or make one, depending on how it is managed,’’ she said.
The educationist said that her desire to produce great minds had motivated her to own a secondary school.
“There is nothing greater than the joy and peace of mind you get in seeing children you trained and educated becoming successful in life,’’ she said. (NAN)
