Home pregnancy tests are getting high-tech, thanks to a new smart pregnancy test from First Response, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week.
Like with any pregnancy test, you still have to pee on a stick. But with this test, technology inside the stick connects via Bluetooth to your app to give you results and then deliver custom information based on whether you're pregnant or not. While you wait the three long minutes for your results, you can choose to be entertained by baby animal videos, educated with information about fertility and pregnancy, or calmed with a relaxing video.
The First Response Pregnancy PRO digital pregnancy test can also be used as a pregnancy tracker, reminding you of doctor's appointments as well as your due date prediction and pregnancy milestones. Or you can use it to chart fertility.
The app will be available for free on both iOS and Android platforms, but the cost of the pregnancy test you actually have to pee on (we repeat, pee on the stick and not on your phone) will cost about double what the average standard pregnancy test goes for in the pharmacy. According to Mashable, standard tests may cost between $8.99 and $15.95, and a Bluetooth-enabled test has a suggested retail price between $14.99 and $21.99.
Weirdest feature? There's a button in the app that allows you to share your test results. Not sure that's how we'd choose to tell our partner about a new baby on the way, but that'll soon be one way to do it! We can't get over the idea of an app sharing your pregnancy test results on Facebook for all your family, friends and acquaintances to see, though. Would you do it?
