Some roads make the journey more exciting than the destination and challenge travellers to unleash their inner Jeremy Clarkson.
Take the Overwater Highway in China, for example, which was built in the middle of a river valley (bottom left), and the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, Japan (top left) where visitors drive through 65ft high snow walls.
Or the world's longest road tunnel, the Laerdal Tunnel in Norway (bottom right), which sees drivers plunged underground for a whopping 15.2 miles, the world's longest road, the Pan-American Highway (top right) and the world's 'crookedest' street, Lombard Street in San Francisco (inset). Here MailOnline Travel rounds up the world's wackiest roads.
