Experienced swimmer, 13, dies after being pulled from the pool during practice - then the stricken coach who tried to save her has a heart attack moments later

Elise Cerami had just finished her warm up in the Carroll school district Aquatics Center at around 6:45am on Monday, when people around the pool realized she hadn't surfaced.


The youngster, who was in the advanced North Texas Nadadores club, was pulled from the water so staff could perform CPR. She was taken to hospital but died a short time later. Her coach, Bill Christensen, who tried to save her life then collapsed at the side of the pool after suffering a heart attack. On Monday afternoon he was in a non-life threatening condition in hospital. Elise would have been a Carroll High School freshman this fall. The Medical Examiner's office has not released an official cause of death.
