The wife of the President Hajiya Aisha Buhari, on Thursday flagged-off the Maternal and New- Born Child Health(MNCH) week in Jega Local Government Area in Kebbi state.
She also inaugurated a new 80-Bed capacity general hospital named after her.
Speaking at the occasion Buhari, commended the state government for giving priority to maternal and child health.
She also pledged to ensure that maternal and child health centres were provided in communities across the country.
She also expressed her commitment to promote and support maternal and child health care especially the reduction in maternal mortality.
Hajiya Buhari, called on other wives of political leaders to emulate the timely efforts by the Kebbi government in tackling maternal and child health care.
The President’s wife also donated assorted foodstuff, textile materials and blankets to Internally Displaced Persons.
Speaking at the ceremony the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Zainab, said activities for the week would involve promotion of health and well being of mothers and children.
She commended donor agencies for supporting the health care sector of the state and pledged to expand the scope of impact
especially in rural areas.
In his speech the Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, said the Federal Government would boost healthcare delivery in the country.
