Denise Robertson (centre), who has helped thousands of people during a career on the show lasting 27 years, had bravely announced last month that she had been diagnosed with the disease but vowed to fight it.
However, colleagues on This Morning announced today that the 83-year-old, who has recently been treated in London's Royal Marsden Hospital, had passed away after losing her 'short but determined' battle with the disease. Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford presented an emotional special edition of the show today, during which hosts past and present paid tribute to a women who was loved around the nation for her plain speaking and honest advice.
Phillip Schofield (right), speaking via Facetime, told viewers: 'Everyone wanted her back on the sofa but we knew deep down she wasn't going to make it back.' Holly Willoughby (left), who spoke to the show via phone, added: 'She was a real fighter for everybody. It is so sad.'
